JungleBox, by Beforest

We want to grow more forests, and not just at the farm, but also small ones in your apartment community or school or small garden, tiny ones on your terrace, or even micro forests in a box in your balcony!

The best, funnest and most sustainable way to have more of these is for you guys to create them yourself. But of course, getting started is tough, and we’ll help.

Hence JungleBox! This is a project started by Abhishek Tiwari, and we’re delighted to get it on-board Beforest and help grow the idea. (At this point, this is available in Bangalore)

Here’s how we help :

• Get You Initiated
  • At Your Home : We have a lot of resources that help you understand how plants grow, how to work with nature, and how to plan and imagine your balcony, or terrace.
  • In Your School/Community : A learning & training session, with a 101 on what is a forest, some design ideas on how to get started, pick stakeholders and make a few early plans.
• Connect With An Ecosystem of Service Providers
  • Plants : small nurseries that understand natural growth, and supply you with saplings, or even ready boxes, pots and accessories
  • Monthly Expert Visit and Advice
  • Permaculture experts and designers for larger spaces
• Community of enthusiasts
  • Ask questions, answer some, go check out other people’s gardens and share seeds, produce and recipes
• Events and learning sessions – free/paid/sponsored
• Community sponsored forest setups at Govt Schools, etc. We’ll need help and contribution for this!

Does it involve a fee?

We want you to deal with and pay vendors directly, and get deeply involved and understand your forest better over time. We are happy to answer questions, and connect with a growing ecosystem – this also provide a lot of green livelihoods.

Being on the platform itself is a mere 299/- a quarter, or 999/- a year (we are waiving this for 3 months till we figure all this out). The sessions at your community will cost a little for the time and material required for it, on a case by case basis.

• All designs and advice belong to Gaia (free and open source)
