Stakeholders of a Landscape: Shaping Healthier Ecosystems Together

Beforest Collectives are primarily community driven. But who are these people that make the “community”, and what role do they play in shaping a Collective? As we begin our journey of building the 122-acre Mumbai Collective, we elaborate upon these landscape stakeholders who affect and are affected by the activities of the landscape.

1. Team Beforest 

Our team consists of ecological designers, farm planners & operators, estate managers, designers, naturalists, and finance & business development professionals working full-time towards the collective’s growth. We manage the planning and execution of large-scale permaculture initiatives and collaborate with experts for the housing of members, infrastructure and biodiversity promotion while coordinating with local authorities and legal consultants. The in-office and on-ground team is the connecting link between the rest of the stakeholders of a landscape.

2. Members (investors)

They drive the birth of a Collective by investing in the landscape monetarily (buying a portion of the collectively-owned landscape) and leading its growth from the get-go. Their essential financial support nurtures ecological well-being and community engagement. Beyond crowdfunding, members play a huge role in decision-making and promoting the long-term vision for the Collective. Their commitment ensures the economic and social progress of the landscape.

3. Collaborators & Consultants

Expert professionals, such as architectural designers, wildlife conservationists, legal, financial and sustainability consultants, are instrumental in the growth of our Collectives. They bring specialised knowledge and skills to the planning and execution of projects. Collaborating with these professionals helps us make well-informed decisions prioritising environmental conservation and social considerations. 

4. Locals

The local community plays a crucial role in shaping sustainable development by contributing indigenous knowledge, skills, and a deep understanding of the land. Their involvement ensures that the Collectives are rooted in the cultural context and often provide valuable insights into sustainable practices that have been passed down through generations. Collaborating with the local community brings a sense of ownership and commitment, creating a more inclusive and resilient development process. Their engagement contributes to the project’s overall success by aligning it with the needs and aspirations of the people who call the land home. We also partner with local small businesses & suppliers for mutual support & benefit. 

5. Government Bodies

Government bodies provide regulatory oversight and necessary approvals. Collaborating with them ensures adherence to legal requirements and aligns us with broader community and environmental goals. Working closely with district authorities and relevant bodies is crucial for obtaining land use, infrastructure, and ecological impact approvals. Their involvement adds accountability, ensuring that projects adhere to local regulations and contribute to a sustainable landscape benefiting the community and the environment.

Why is Stakeholder Collaboration Essential for Sustainable Development?

Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do a lot. The teamwork of stakeholders helps in
