Finding Bliss through Nature & Community

Many of us today feel a disconnect with nature, leading some to consider buying a farm as the solution. However, the initial enthusiasm often fades as life takes over, leaving the farm in a state of uncertainty. Despite our best intentions, financial challenges arise, making us question the viability of creating a natural landscape where food can thrive as intended by nature.

To address this, we must explore alternative approaches, such as sustainable farming practices like permaculture and organic gardening. By embracing these methods, we can cultivate vibrant landscapes that respect the land's integrity and promote ecological balance. It's about finding a balance between our desires for a natural environment and the practicalities of modern life, creating a harmonious space where food grows in tune with nature's intentions.

We connected with others on the same journey...

and realised that very few farms are ecologically and economically viable. There seemed to be something fundamentally wrong with the way we were going about it. Trying to grow naturally on a land that has faced decades of intensive degradation, felt very much like asking a man in ICU to run the Boston marathon. It was designed to fail. So we rephrased our goal from growing food to growing soil.

Like attracts like and we realised we were not alone in this.

There were many going through a similar process. Some were ahead. Some had solved parts of the problem. Some were intentional. This was the start of a collective of like-minded people with the objective of growing food sustainably. We called ourselves "The Farming Collective". With the new understanding of growing soil, we focussed on regenerating the landscape, the biodiversity and kickstarting the circle of life after decades of destructive land use.

Unite and Grow

We are very particular about not exploiting the landscape. In fact, we want to rejuvenate it. We want to create cycles that recharge water, build soil, increase biodiversity and provide us with the fundamental needs of modern-day living - food, water and power. We explored different models of design and were greatly inspired by food forests, as essentially that was what we were looking to do - grow back a forest. It inspired us so much that we named ourselves Beforest.

Forests have lived on for generations without any external support and are our greatest inspirations. They exemplify natural ecosystems where thousands of species coexist and support the growth of one another. We set out to form our collectives keeping the feeling of coexistence,  co-creation and collaboration in mind - not just with fellow humans but also with animals, plants and everything that belongs to nature.

A connection to nature is our longing - a connection that is strong, unwavering, robust and lasting. In order to lead self-sufficient and sustainable lives, having food, water and power security is a must. We see farming as a means to establish that connection with nature as well as become self-sufficient. By studying the way forests function and combining them with restorative/sensitive design methodologies (permaculture, polyculture, biofencing and more), we try to grow ‘food forests’ in our collectives - farms that look and function like forests.

We are trying to study forest, build forest, and ultimately be forest!

Our Team

The Diverse Plants of Our Ecosystem

We are a bunch of econuts who have come together to nurture this dream and grow with it. Unique individuals with shared values and aspirations, our team is a farming collective in itself!

Besides being good at what we do, we each bring a personality, a nuance, a new shade of green, an undying thirst for learning, a will to bring change and a commitment to grow into a better world together.

Bewild

Nature works in wonderful ways, and more often than not, you reap more than what you sow.

When you sow the right seeds and treat the land with love, respect and care, it rewards you with a surplus - a wild, quality produce. We add value to this surplus from our farming collectives and make the taste of forest accessible to all.
