Let’s dive right back into the heart of Coorg, where the Hammiyala Collective invites us on a unique journey of sustainable living and community spirit. This isn’t just about owning a slice of coffee estate; it’s a call to those who dream of a sustainable lifestyle in harmony with nature. So, let’s keep it real and explore why the Hammiyala Collective might just be where your heart finds its home.
Building a New Chapter in Coorg
A pleasant & scenic 45-minute drive from Madikeri, nestled within the Western Ghats (a biodiversity hotspot), sits the Hammiyala Estate – a 100+ acre coffee plantation whose fate we’re aiming to upturn. With its lush landscapes, including two hillocks and a perennial stream, this estate sets the stage for a life that’s closer to nature than ever before. And with a shared dream of sustainable living, we are on our way to transforming this estate, and our lives, in sync with nature’s rhythm.
Hammiyala Collective: What’s It All About?
Beforest’s 3rd Wilderness Collective, the Hammiyala Estate is more than just a piece of land. It’s about reimagining what it means to live sustainably. Here, we are on our journey to weave coffee plantations with wild medicinal herbs, spices, and fruiting trees, painting a picture of what a food forest looks like in full bloom, and eventually turning that picture into a reality. It’s a commitment to leaving the land better than we found it, preserving half of the estate as a Wilderness zone to support wildlife, from big cats to bat colonies. To give you a better idea, let’s look at how our former Wilderness Collectives have grown since 2019.
From Dream to Reality: The Journey of Beforest’s Wilderness Collectives
Back in 2019, Beforest started with a groundbreaking idea: to blend the concept of owning land with committing to a lifestyle that puts the planet first. This wasn’t just about buying property; it was about investing in a way of life that respects and enhances the natural world. The first success story of this vision was the Poomaale 1.0 Collective, which transformed a conventional coffee estate into a model of community-driven, sustainable living in Coorg. This set the foundation for what would come next.
Facing the realities of traditional farming’s impact on the environment, Beforest envisioned a different path for the coffee estate, one that integrated it back into the ecosystem, focusing on diversity and natural farming methods such as permaculture farming. This shift not only helped heal the land but also created a strong community bonded by shared goals of conservation and sustainable development in the Western Ghats. As the Hammiyala Collective takes shape, it builds on the lessons and successes of Poomaale, inviting more people to join a movement dedicated to living in harmony with nature, eventually giving birth to the Poomaale 2.0 Collective in Coorg.

Joining Hands for a Greener Tomorrow
What makes the Hammiyala Collective stand out is its foundation in community and sustainability. It’s a place where, like all our Collectives, we are on a mission to balance economic viability and ecological prosperity responsibly, guided by the 4 Returns framework. This collective isn’t just an investment in property; it’s a step towards a future where we live in sync with the environment, ensuring that we’re leaving a legacy of sustainability for future generations.
